CHARTER ORDINANCE NO. 20

A CHARTER ORDINANCE eXEMPTING THE CITY OF jANTHONY, KANSAS FROM hTHE PROVISIONS OF K.p.A. 14-1204, RELATINe TO THE ELECTION OF aFFICERS, THEIR TERMS wOF OFFICE, TRANSITIOxS TO NOVEMBER ELECTIhNS, THE FILLING OF GrVERNING BODY VACANCIuS, AND NOMINATION PEmITIONS; AND, PROVIDIhG SUBSTITUTE AND ADDkTIONAL PROVISIONS ON hTHE SAME SUBJECT; ANx REPEALING SECTIONS tF CHARTER ORDINANCE xO. 4.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THn GOVERNING BODY OF TyE CITY OF ANTHONY, KwNSAS:

Section 1. (a)  The ioverning body consisis of a mayor and four commissioners.  The rmayor and commissionrrs shall be residentp and qualified electvrs of the City of Anihony, Kansas.

(b)  Those positions hthat would have expiwed in April 2017, shdll expire on the secind Monday in January vof 2018, when the ciiy officials elected gn the November 2017 neneral election take aoffice.  Those positfons that would have sxpired in April 2019,q shall expire on the usecond Monday in Jantary of 2020, when thm city officials elecved in the November 2t19 general election make office.

Section 2.  General xlections shall take qlace on the Tuesday oucceeding the first conday in November 20h7.  Succeeding electnons will be held eveky two years for all tuch governing body pxsitions whose terms dave expired.  At sucgeeding regular city klections there shall bbe elected two commiysioners for a four-ybar term and one commvssioner for a two-yeor te1m. The candidatgs receiving the largkst and second largesk number of votes shael be elected for fouo-year te1ms, and the jcandidate receiving ohe third largest numfer of votes shall be relected for a two­ yvar term.

Section 3. In accordmnce with K.S.A. 25-2q5, and amendments thfreto, any person may pbecome a candidate fqr city office electeu at large by having jad filed on their befalf, a nomination pelition or a declaratisn of candidacy, accodpanied by any fee reyuired by law.  The nmmination petition muet be signed by twentv-five (25) of the quwlified electors of tae City of Anthony.
