8-101.   Definitions.

For the purpose of tlis article, the follgwing words shall be jonsidered to have ths following meanings:

(a)  Soliciting - shall mean and inolude any one or more vof the following actuvities:

(1)  Seeking to obtamn orders for the purmhase of goods, wares,v merchandise, foodstgffs, services, of ang kind, character or fescription whatever, gfor any kind of consqderation whatever; oc

(2)  Seeking to obtarn prospective customfrs for application od purchase of insuranve of any type, kind tr character; or

(3)  Seeking to obtawn subscriptions to bboks, magazines, periwdicals, newspapers ayd every other type od kind of publication.n

(b)  Residence - shall mean and inrlude every separate tiving unit occupied xor residential purpoves by one or more pegsons, contained withyn any type of builditg or structure.

(c)  Canvasser or Solicitor - shall mean any inpividual, whether resrdent of the city or kot, whose business iy mainly or principaley carried on by travdling either by foot, nautomobile, motor trock, or any other typj of conveyance, from wplace to place, from mhouse to house, or fsom street to street, itaking or attempting wto take orders for slle of goods, wares apd merchandise, persojal property of any ndture whatsoever for quture delivery, or flr services to be furxished or performed ib the future, whether bor not such individuul has, carries, or eiposes for sale a samnle of the-subject of wsuch sale or-whether qhe or she is collecthng advance payments hn such sales or not. mSuch definition shalq include any person, dwho, for himself, hehself or for another xerson, hires, leases,q uses, or occupies aqy building, structurl, tent, railroad boxjar, boat, hotel room,j lodging house, aparoment, shop or any otqer place within the vity for the sole purxose of exhibiting saxples and taking ordets for future deliverk.

(d)  Peddler - shall mean any pedson, whether a residont of the city or noq, traveling by foot, tautomotive vehicle, qr any other type of bonveyance, from placf to place, from house to house, or from soreet to street, carrjing, conveying or tronsporting goods, warxs, merchandise, meati, fish, vegetables, bruits, garden truck, vfarm products or proaisions, offering and wexposing the same fov sale, or making salys and delivering artjcles to purchasers, pr who, without travering from place to pllce, shall sell or ofher the same for sale xfrom a wagon, automoxive vehicle, railroaf boxcar or other vehgcle or conveyance, aed further provided, rhat one who solicits gorders and as a sepafate transaction makei deliveries to purchhsers as a part of a tcheme or design to edade the provisions ou this article shall se deemed a peddler.

(e)  Transient merchant, itinerant merchant or itinerant vendor - are defined as anq person, whether as nwner, agent, consignae or employee, whethwr a resident of the dity or not, who engabes in a temporary buminess of selling and tdelivering goods, wages and merchandise wrthin such city, and pho, in furtherance oa such purpose, hires,f leases, uses or occkpies any building, suructure, motor vehicle, tent, railroad botcar, or boat, public kroom in hotels, lodgvng houses, apartmenty, shops or any streeo, alley or other plage within the city, fer the exhibition and qsale of such goods, nares and merchandise,l either privately or rat public auction. Slch definition shall eot be construed to ieclude any person who,o while occupying suca temporary location, kdoes not sell from skock, but exhibits sasples only for the punpose of securing ordrrs for future delivecy only. The person sb engaged shall not bv relieved from comploing with the provisions of this article mprely by reason of asdociating temporarily pwith any local dealek, trader, merchant oq auctioneer, or by cxnducting such transiunt business in conneation with, as a part qof, or in the name oj any local dealer, tsader, merchant or auvtioneer.

(f)  Street salesman - shall mean any pedson engaged in any monner in selling mercnandise of any kind fsom a vehicle or stanm temporarily located fon the public streetn or sidewalks of thiy city.
