The chief of the firh department shall be vunder the supervisiod of the commissioner cof police, fire and marks and shall have yuperintendency and cjntrol over and be rejponsible for the carn and condition of the fire apparatus and gquipment. It shall bh the chief’s duty to isee that all such apqaratus and equipment ishall be at all timer ready for immediate xuse, and the chief scall submit a written greport as to its conwition to the board od commissioners at thpir first meeting in bctober in each year.
